Help me raise money for an incredible organization! … and help me throw my husband Over the Edge of an 18 story building! ;)
You can do both! I am raising money for Gilda’s Club Kentuckiana and if I raise $1000 Kelby (the husband) will rappel off the Hyatt Regency Louisville. This building is 18 stories and 236 feet high!
Through fundraising Gilda’s Club Kentuckiana offers FREE support to anyone dealing with a cancer diagnosis. The mission is this: “At Gilda’s Club Kentuckiana our mission is to ensure those impacted by cancer are empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action and sustained by community. We are dedicated to creating a support system unlike any other”. This support system comes in the form of support groups, cancer education, social activities, healthy lifestyle classes and cancer resources and referrals.
Why are we doing this? As many of you know I have battled cancer and am in my third year of being cancer free.
When I began my cancer journey I was told to prepare for an array of side effects for my upcoming treatment, for me that was chemotherapy and eventually radiation. The list of side effects seemed endless. I literally had to stop the nurse and say please just give me the list and I will read the rest at home, it was just too long! So, I found myself preparing for the physical aspect of cancer treatment and then when treatment started, dealing with the physical aspects of treatment.
What I was not prepared for or dealing with was the emotional and mental toll cancer can have on a person. It was then a friend of mine asked if I had ever been to Gilda’s Club, I had not, and a week later I was in my very first support group.
The first meeting I went to was the first time I felt I could breath in months. I was with a group of people who understood the raw and real emotions cancer brings to individuals, family and friends. I was not alone. I felt and still feel so supported by this community that I joined the associate board a few years ago.
Many may ask why I am not rappelling personally and sending my husband Over the Edge? Simply put, he offered to do it for me. He knows I faced and fought one of my greatest fears with cancer, so he will take on my fear of heights and do this for me. I need to raise $1000 just to get him Over the Edge, BUT I would love to raise even more so Gilda’s Club Kentuckiana can continue to help support anyone facing cancer so that no one faces cancer alone!
Please donate any amount you can and thank you from the bottom of my heart.
