Not all heroes wear capes, but my friend, Carter, is brave enough to go OVER THE EDGE for me as I raise money and advocate for Gilda's Club Kentuckiana! My goal is to raise $1,000 to send Carter rappelling down 18-stories off the side of the Hyatt Regency Louisville on November 20th **May 21, 2021 -- IN COSPLAY. That's right! Will she be Captain Marvel, Rey or dressed as another superhero? Come check out the event any time between 8AM-5PM EST to find out and to also watch her and all other volunteers supporting this amazing cause!
Carter introduced me to GCK years ago when we volunteered at Noogiefest! -- the annual Halloween-themed event hosted by GCK and The Junior League of Louisville for all youth in the community that have been touched by cancer. Carter and I were also former Associate Board members for GCK, so this organization holds a special place in our hearts. My family and friends know that my mother is a breast cancer survivor, my dad is currently undergoing treatment for colon cancer, and I had lost my father-in-law to prostate cancer seven years ago. I quickly learned that social and emotional support is needed as much as a cure.
The funds generated will help ensure the community, social connections, coping skills, and access to individual and family short-term counseling offered at Gilda’s Club are sustained for their 1,800 participants. Please, join me in supporting Gilda's Club Kentuckiana. **For every $1 donated to my personal page before November 20, 2020, I will match up to $1,000. Let's do this!
**EVENT UPDATE: As COVID-19 cases were on the rise last winter, the Over The Edge event was postponed from November 20th to Friday, May 21, 2021. But the great news is that my goal was met, I was able to make a full match, and Carter will be rappelling on her birthday weekend! What an awesome way to celebrate!
FLOOD DAMAGE: Thank you to everyone who has supported my fundraising page to date. Gilda's Club Kentuckiana needs your help more than ever after the clubhouse's recent flood damage from storm water and sewage backup causing damages with the latest estimate at $250,000 (with insurance payout of $50K). GCK is working with MSD, engineers, architects, builders and plumbers to identify and mitigate the cause. This is a disappointing setback, but GCK remains committed to uninterrupted service. If you would like to help out, please, consider making a donation! https://www.wave3.com/2021/02/28/gildas-club-kentuckiana-faces-thousands-damage-due-flooding/
