My young niece's illness and death at age 4, my neighbor's nursing home experience, and my being a single mom of 4 wonderful elementary children had me return to college at Spalding switching from French major to Social Work in the 70s. I wanted to learn skills to accompany people through life's health challenges. Hospice didn't as yet exist in the US, yet it was beckoning.
After completing my masters at Kent & working two jobs that prepped me to join staff at Hospice of Louisville, I knew I was where life wanted me to be. Then I thought, I need to learn more about the needs of those with big health issues prior to the terminal stage and was fortunate enough to work on contract for Gilda's a cancer support community named for SNL comedian Gilda Radner. In 2016, I joined full time staff & have witnessed miracles of resilience, humor, flexibility,, FUN! That makes me so eager to go OVER THE EDGE to garner support so members pay nothing for all they get from our life-enriching programs. Thank you!
