A little about me...

Super excited to Go Over the Edge, but also a little nervous. I am celebrating being CANCER FREE for 11 years this year!!!

My journey stared in 2009 when I felt a lump in my lymph node in my neck, thinking it was strep throat. Going through all of the motions, after 3 months, found out that I had Stage 2 Hodgkin's Lymphoma. My family and I dove right in and created a plan of action along with my medical team. 6 months of chemo and radiation later I was finally in remission and on vacation when I found the same lump exactly 30 days later. Called my oncologist and his response was "I'll see you Monday." The fear sank in and on Monday morning, created yet another plan of action. Trying 3 months of harsher chemo, it was determined that the Cancer was not fully gone. In 2010, my medical team decided I needed a Stem Cell Transplant and Vanderbilt was going to be my new home for a bit. Fast forward to treatment, I decided to get an autologous transplant (saving my own life, using my own stem cells). There were many ups and downs with this process and could give a lot more details, but I will spare you all. In March of 2011, I was finally Cancer Free and could not have done this without my family and friends!

My advice to anyone going through their Cancer journey is to have a positive attitude, surround yourself with people that will support you having good days and bad days, and always know that you are doing the best you can! You will get through this, and be stronger on the other side!
