My friends, I am a walking, talking medical miracle and I know how blessed I am to be on this earth and to have the privilege of serving an organization like Gilda's Club Kentuckiana. You see, I came to Gilda's in 2019. I had recently retired and was looking to find a way to give back to my community and, let's face it, I needed to get my butt off the couch! So we spent a little time feeling each other out ... that's when they found out that I knew a thing or two about computers. Then came 2020 and Covid and suddenly we have to figure out how to go Virtual and something about delivering 5000 green light bulbs... and, oh yeah, I had a liver transplant! 2021 comes along, I’m feeling better than ever, but petrified of Covid! Who knew it would still be around, pesky menace! So I go in for my 1-year post-transplant visit feeling on top of the world and, guess what ... they tell me I have cancer! 4 months of chemo and my son's wedding rounded out that year! But in 2022, I got to hear the doc say cancer-free. He used the word eradicated. That's the most glorious word in the world -- eradicated! And, yeah, I did finally get Covid over Christmas so I can put that one behind me, too. Whew! Now it’s 2023 and how do you top all that? Well… guess I’ll have to jump off that damn building!
