I had my first experience with cancer when I lost my grandfather at the age of five. I didn't understand the intensity of the disease or the scope of its impact in our city at the time, but soon learned more when I lost my other grandfather to a different type of cancer years later. Then I was diagnosed with a rare form of sarcoma in December 2015 & I came to understand cancer in a whole new way.
At first I felt alone. No one in my personal support system understood what I was going through. Someone told me about Gilda's Club & I went, skeptical that it would make a difference. I'm so glad I was wrong.
Gilda's Club came to be the place I felt most understood in the world. No one stared at me during my reconstructive surgery process. I was seen as more than the girl with cancer & given encouragement & support in indescribably ways. They provided support groups, social events, & access to other resources. Gidla's Club is a community of friends with an unfortunate commonality, who strengthen one another through the hardest seasons of life.
It is my honor to be a survivor & to serve on the Gilda's Club Associate Board, the hosts of the Wigs on Tap event! I can personally tell you how big a difference every dollar you give can make to a cancer patient & their friends/family. Please consider attending our event on October 5th &/or giving to this organization so that we can further our mission to ensure no one faces cancer alone!
