David Stemler, owner of PC Home Stores, sister Kay passed away from ovarian cancer in 2008. She was one of the first members at Gilda’s Club when they opened in Louisville in 2007 providing free support and programs for those living with cancer and their families. Going to Gilda’s for classes and often just to sit in a cozy and peaceful place for a bit were highlights of her days in that final year. There are so many stories just like hers of the difference Gilda’s Club makes during some of the darkest and scariest moments.
David joined Gilda’s Club of Kentuckiana’s Board of Directors in her memory shortly after she died and currently serves as Board Chairman. For this reason, PC has adopted GCK as one of the charities we support year-round. Everything GCK is able to do is 100% thanks to donations from the community. It is PC's goal to help make sure their mission lives on and Gilda's Club continues to be a place of refuge the same way it was for my Kay and her family.
Last year David and his wife Sara went ‘Over The Edge’ for Gilda’s Club and said it was a ‘life-changing experience’. Now this year, we want to make PC’s participation in the event even bigger with a goal of raising $5,000 in donations and sending a few of our most daring employees ‘Over The Edge’ to raise money and awareness for Gilda’s Club.
We'd love for you to participate in one (or more) of the following four ways:
- Make a donation to help us raise $5,000
- Sign-up to raise $1,000 and rappel with the PC Team
- Come out and cheer us on May 20th at the street party in front of the Hyatt downtown Louisville
- Share a link to this page or one of our posts on Facebook with your family, friends, business associates
From the entire PC family, thank you in advance for helping us support this truly special organization!
If you know anyone that is currently facing cancer please make sure they know about Gilda's Club https://www.gck.org/
