For me, Gilda's has been life-affirming and allowed me to redesign family.
In programs I've attended, especially my support groups, I have learned so much from other members. The emotional support and open, honest conversation has allowed me to share things that I'd otherwise have kept to myself. The love, education, and support I received throughout my entire time at Gilda's, through my husband's diagnosis and transition into bereavement care and beyond, has encouraged me to live each day to it's fullest.
After the loss of my husband and sister, my brother-in-law and niece joined me at the Gilda's Thanksgiving dinner--something I've hosted for many years. Celebrating with other Gilda's members, people who've been on similar journeys as mine, allowed me to create family in a new way.
I am going Over the Edge in honor of many friends and family who've dealt with cancer and in recognition of Gilda's support, which has been available to me through the laughter and tears! I am grateful to have experienced this amazing Club (which no one wants to be a part of in the first place!).
